The Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America (DDBSA) was officially established in February, 1997, after almost one year of planning. The DDBSA is  registered with the IRS as a 501c(3) non-profit corporation.  Additionally, the DDBSA is also registered in the State of New Jersey as a non-profit corporation. During January, 2022, the DDBSA received notice from the AKC that the DDBSA was officially recognized and granted status as a member of the American Kennel Club.

The club's day-to-day activities are handled by the Officers and Board of Directors, who encourage open communication among members and welcome all dogs, whether for conformation, working, agility, or family companionship.

The DDBSA, the parent breed club for the Dogue de Bordeaux, is the country's largest breed club, and the membership list continues to grow—from the initial 50 members in 1997 to over 1000 people who have participated throughout the years.

 

In 2004, the DDBSA was appointed as the club that the AKC FSS recommended for AKC Parent Club Status for the Dogue de Bordeaux. In 2006, the Dogue de Bordeaux was officially moved to the AKC Miscellaneous Class, and on July 1, 2008, the breed officially moved to the AKC Working Group! Also, in 2006, the DDBS officially changed its name to the Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America—the DDBSA.

The DDBSA aggressively pursues and maintains a list of ongoing goals, such as running a breed rescue, promoting canine education, exhibiting the Dogue's natural working ability, welcoming all owners and fanciers to the club, improving the breed, adherence to the AKC breed standard, community outreach, judges and breeder education, and encouraging the highest standards and ethics of breeding the Dogue de Bordeaux.

The DDBSA follows an animal-friendly Code of Ethics that is a valuable guide to dog ownership. This includes a healthy environment, proper record keeping, breeding ethics, honest sales and advertising, and an agreement not to promote, support, or raise dogs for fighting, facing off, game testing, rolling, or pitting.

The club holds multiple supported entry shows and one National Specialty Weekend each year. The Nationals location rotates among three DDBSA-designated regions each year.  On April 18, 1998, the DDBSA held its first National Specialty in the State of New Jersey. Today, the DDBSA National Specialty Weekend is the largest show of the year for the Dogue de Bordeaux in the USA and one of its primary fundraisers.

 

The DDBSA recognizes dogues competing successfully in working ability events in addition to recognizing members and their dogues through the new Awards Program.

The (Bi) Monthly Slobber is the club newsletter, published every two months. It contains informative articles on dog care, scientific advancements, and a variety of articles by club members. There are also committee updates, show schedules, and photos of members' dogues.

Most of all, the DDBSA offers COMMUNICATION! All members are kept up-to-date on the happenings of the club. Members receive the newsletter, important news/information, AKC Legislative Alerts/Updates. There is always an open phone line or social media venue for any members needing info from any committee members. All members are also encouraged to participate in committees and all are made to feel included and involved.
