OUTSTANDING SPORTSMAN AWARD
The Outstanding Sportsman Award will be presented to an individual who has shown exceptional sportsmanship in all arenas related to the Dogue de Bordeaux. This award recognizes and honors a member of the Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America who in substantial measure promotes the sport of purebred dogs, embodies the essence of sportsmanship as reflected in the AKC Code of Sportsmanship, and has been an active and respected participant in various events and activities of the Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America.
Eligibility:
| Nominee must be a member in good standing of the Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America. | |
| Nominee will regularly exhibit at dog shows and/or other events such as performance and companion events endorsed by the Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America. Nominee may also participate in activities attendant to dog shows and other events, such as Meet the Breed Booths, mentoring new exhibitors and assisting in conducting shows or other events. | |
| The recipient will be an individual who has shown unparalleled examples of sportsmanship and has best exemplified the ideals of sportsmanship as embodied in the AKC Code of Sportsmanship, including, but not limited to fairness, civility, honesty, unselfishness and respect for rules. This individual will also have set a good example and acted responsibly in furthering objectives of the Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America such as: |
| To define the standard of the breed and to urge members and breeders to accept the AKC standard for judging and breeding | |
| To promote the Dogue de Bordeaux as a show dog, performance dog, family dog, and working dog | |
| To popularize the breed with the general public by providing proper information and news concerning breeding, care, training and showing | |
| To protect and advance the best interests of the breed | |
| To encourage and foster educational events for the betterment of the breed |
General Rules:
| Nominee must be a member in good standing of the Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America. Nominator need not be a member. | |
| This award will be won only once by any individual. | |
| Nomination must be made by completing the relevant form. | |
| Nomination must be postmarked by January 31st to be considered for presentation at the National Specialty of that year. | |
| The Awards Committee may recommend revisions to this program with revisions being approved by majority vote of the Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America Board of Directors. Notification of such revisions will be made to the membership on a timely basis. |
